Developing Next‑Generation Biopolymer Films for Agriculture and Sustainable Packaging

BioTerra Materials is an early‑stage materials venture focused on developing bio‑based biopolymer films that address plastic waste, soil contamination, and evolving sustainability requirements across agriculture and industrial/FMCG packaging.
We are currently in the research and development phase, working on two core product platforms and actively engaging with partners, customers, and institutions for exploratory discussions and pilot collaborations.
Why BioTerra Materials
-
Application‑first approach focused on real end‑of‑life conditions
-
Biopolymer‑based platform reducing reliance on fossil‑derived plastics
-
Compliance‑aware development aligned with certification pathways
-
India‑relevant design for local agriculture, waste systems, and regulations

Our Focus Areas
Biodegradable Mulching Sheets (Agriculture)
Conventional polyethylene (PE) mulching sheets are difficult to recover after use and can contribute to soil residue and microplastic buildup.
BioTerra Materials is developing biopolymer-based biodegradable mulching sheets designed to:
-
Perform reliably during the crop cycle
-
Reduce post-harvest removal requirements
-
Degrade under controlled post-use conditions
-
Support improved soil interaction
-
Adapt to different crop and field conditions
Status: Under active R&D and validation
Compostable Flexible Packaging Film (FMCG & Industrial Packaging)
Multilayer flexible packaging is one of the most challenging plastic waste streams due to its complex structure and limited recyclability.
BioTerra Materials is developing a bio-based compostable film platform designed as a base material for conversion into packaging formats such as pouches, wraps, and laminates.
This platform aims to:
-
Align with evolving sustainability and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements
-
Enable controlled end-of-life pathways (e.g. composting, recycling)
-
Support multiple packaging applications
-
Balance performance, processability, and environmental impact
Status: Under active R&D and formulation development
Current Stage &
Collaboration Outlook
We believe meaningful materials innovation begins with collaborative problem‑solving, not finished catalog products.
1.
In pre‑commercial R&D
and prototyping
2.
Engaging with research institutions, incubation centres, and early industry partners
3.
Exploring pilot‑scale trials, formulation validation, and application feedback
4.
Open to exploratory conversations with agricultural, FMCG, packaging, and sustainability teams
Let’s Explore Possibilities

If you are exploring sustainable alternatives to conventional plastic films or early‑stage collaboration opportunities, we would be happy to start a conversation.
